In 1994, Lauren Bernick and her yenta mother decided that Houston needed a new way for single people to meet (imagine dating pre-internet)! The dream was to connect Houston singles at fun, safe, face-to-face events. Think speed dating, but slow dating.
The events were arranged by age groups. Since most people seem to want to date within 5 years of their age (up or down). For the members who were interested, there were also "all ages" events.
In 1998, Kelly Howard purchased the company. Kelly has always enjoyed creating events, experiences and cool adventures to help Single Professionals connect. In the 10+ years that Kelly has been a part of Eight Friends Out, she estimates that EFO has been responsible for 350+ relationships and about 3 marriages a year.
Part matchmakers and part event planners, the staff at Eight Friends Out love nothing more than losing members - to each other! Many members meet someone special by their 3rd or 4th event. Read their happy testimonials here. Nothing beats the personal face-to-face connection.
Today...
Events are still broken up by age group, though we host many all ages singles events too. In addition to dinners at specific eateries, we also hold a quarterly Progressive Dinner where our members move from venue to venue. They also enjoy, Socials, Cocktail Parties, Sunday Brunch, Singles Tennis and Mixers.
